Semmelweis has a large university campus. The medical department and the clinical university occupy the northern part of the area of Pest. With more than 250 000 books, Semmelweis has one of the best biomedical collections in the whole of Hungary. Moreover, the majority of medical publications in Hungary come from this University.

Semmelweis was the first university in Hungary to offer the degree in Medicine in 1983 in German, and in 1987 it began the international programme in English.

Every year, more than 300 new students begin the degree in Medicine at Semmelweis. The number of Spanish students has seen a consistent increase in the English study programme.

Medicine: The study programme ends with the title of Doctor in Medicine (Dr. med.) and lasts for six years: the first two years are devoted to the general study of Medicine, followed by three years of clinical study and one year of clinical rotations.

Dentistry: The programs’ duration is 5 years. After a successful completion of the thesis and of all the dental exams, the students will obtain the “Dr. Med. Dent.” title.

Pharmacy: The University of Semmelweis in Budapest has a special international programme which ends with the degree in Master of Science in Pharmacy and last 5 years.

Midwifery: As a midwife, you will support women and their families before conception, ante- and postnatally, including family planning. You will have to monitor pregnancies and postpartum progress while cooperating with other healthcare professionals.

Physiotherapy: Physiotherapy studies at Semmelweis University prepare students to be autonomous practitioners who can perform functional examinations, identify impairments, functional limitations, abilities and disabilities by using clinical decision making process.

Nursing: If you study Nursing at Semmelweis University, you will be able to organize, manage and supervise the whole process of nursing in every area of health care.

The University of Semmelweis is located in the heart of Budapest and has more than 1.7 million inhabitants. The Danube flows along the city and divides it into 2 different parts: Buda, west side and full of mountains and Pest, east side and flatter part of the city.

Applicants would need to take an entrance examination which includes multiple choice questions of biology, chemistry and English and a short 20-minute oral exam.

All the studies at the Semmelweis University are recognized in the whole EU, in the EEA and in many other countries. Since 2003 Semmelweis University has been using the ECTS credit point system.
