Balázs Márki, a third year Semmelweis Student of medicine, saved the life of a man in the metro. The student acted in the right way and helped the man, who – as we now know – had a serious stroke, with prompt medical assistance. Without the immediate help of this med student, the man might have died.

As Balázs recalls the incident, he saw someone lying on the floor in the metro. He immediately started to examine the “patient” and felt that his pulse was strong enough to continue the medical assistance on the platform. A fireman, who also had experience in emergency care, helped him to stabilize the man shortly before the ambulance arrived.

Balázs Márki was able to help the man because of the excellent medial training he got during his first two years of medical studies. In his first year, he attended first aid training and during the second year of studies, he learned how to examine a patient: “We learned a lot during our clinical trainings, especially at the Center of Simulation. I think every medical student would have been capable of providing this basic medical assistance”, Balázs Márki downplays his actions. What has also helped a lot was that he worked six months for the Hungarian National Ambulance Service after his second year of medical studies.

Later, Balázs Márki wants to specialize in anesthesia, intensive therapy, emergency patient care or cardiology. We wish him all the best for his future as a doctor. He has already shown a lot of courage with his deed. We are sure that he is going to be a great doctor!
