Degree in Midwifery at Semmelweis University
Midwifery is a degree which entails great responsibility and offers a wide professional field in the areas of gynaecology and obstetrics. Midwifery is a multidisciplinary profession which cares for the woman and the baby well before, during and after childbirth.
We offer you two possible options to access this degree: either after having studied a Nursery degree or directly after leaving secondary school.
1st option:
If you have finished a degree in Nursery or are planning to finish it in July 2015, you can start the Midwifery programme after passing a simple test and an interview. This programme lasts for two years. Lectures are held in English.
At the moment, it is quite easy to access this programme. There is a limited number of participants. The admission process will follow the order of registration of the candidates. We recommend at least a medium level of English.
2nd option:
Directly after secondary school, if you have studied subjects related to healthcare. It is not necessary for you to study Nursery first. The degree in Midwifery lasts for 4 years. Lectures are held in English, in small groups. The candidates will take an easy English test which will take place at the beginning of the year in Madrid. There are job opportunities for midwives all over Europe.
As a midwife, you will support women and their families before conception, ante- and postnatally, including family planning. You will have to monitor pregnancies and postpartum progress while cooperating with other healthcare professionals.
Duration of the programme: 8 semesters. 240 ECTS
Degree: B.Sc.
Entrance requirements: applicants will only need to pass a simple English test.
Career opportunities: you can work in sectors such as the obstetrics-gynaecology department, prenatal care or even family planning.
