Every year, the University of Pécs arranges an International Evening at the university. It is a charity event organized by the English-German Student Council (EGSC) and is carried out by approximately 2,500 students of the University of Pécs Medical School. As a foreign student at an international university, you always get the chance to experience new cultures and interesting people from all over the world. You will make connections and friendships for your lifetime and this process is supported by the annual International Evening of the university.
In order to get to know the different countries and cultures better, there were stands representing different countries, which offered their traditional snacks, desserts and also drinks. The students at each stand willingly answered all questions about the food and were really enthusiastic about sharing info about the cuisine and also their tradition and culture. There were many delicacies like German pretzels, Jordanian bread with thyme, Czech bread with mandarins and garlic spread and a lot more. There was something for every taste and also snacks for vegetarians.
After the testing the traditional dishes of various countries, there were many interesting presentations on stage – a unique and interesting blend of singing and dancing. The Spanish group for example made the entire audience dance the “Macarena” and the dancers of the Nigerian group made the event come to life with their rhythmic dances. The audience was really energetic and supported the acts on stage.
After all the great performances, there was a long after party, where all students from different countries danced and had fun with their friends and strangers and everyone left the International Evening with a smile on their face.
The International Evening once again showed that it was more than a success for everyone. All students tried the most diversified traditional snacks, got to know new cultures by talking to the students representing their country and once more experienced, that people coming thousands of kilometers away from their home country are in no way different to themselves, even though they might have a different ethnic, religious and cultural background.
