The city of Budapest is the largest city in Hungary and the capital of this country, with 1.7 million inhabitants.
The origins of the city date back to 1873, when the cities of Buda and Pest joined. The city is located on the shores of the Danube River; in fact, it was originally divided by this river. On the West is Buda, the hilly part of the city, and on the East is Pest, the flat part. Budapest is settled near a low mountain range whose highest point is 527 above the sea level.
