All the studies at the Semmelweis University are recognized in the whole EU, in the EEA and in many other countries. Since 2003 Semmelweis University has been using the ECTS credit point system.
As a state university, Semmelweis University depends on the Ministries of Health and Education. The University is listed on the schools of medicine published by the World Health Organisation. In addition to this, all of the University’s faculties have been accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Board since 2006. The decision of the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation of the USA declares: “The standards and processes used by the Hungarian Accreditation Council to accredit medical schools in Hungary are comparable to those used to accredit medical schools in the United States”.

International recognition of the degrees:
European Union:
In those professions where the conditions of education in Hungary comply with EU regulations (they have been already adapted), the member states of the European Union are obliged to accept the diplomas issued in Hungary, regardless of the language of tuition.
USA:
Semmelweis graduates who have taken the English programme are entitled to take the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE), after which they are eligible for residency.
Canada:
Semmelweis graduates who have taken the English programme are entitled to take the Medical Council of Canada Evaluation Examination (MCCEE) and the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) before applying for residency.
Israel:
Semmelweis graduates must take an internship year and pass the official exam before being granted permission to practise medicine.
India:
The degrees in Medicine or Dentistry at Semmelweis University are equivalent to the B.D.S. degree in India.
